What’s in store for 2024 and how to sail ahead.

Leading up to the new year we did some thinking. The season of reflection and repose holds many moments worth celebrating from the past year. It’s also nice to look ahead, don’t you think?

We at Gene Kansas love and appreciate transitional moments like this. It gives us the opportunity to contemplate where we’ve been and where we are headed.

While the nuts and bolts of our business do ultimately come home to roost in commercial real estate, what we really do is connect people and place. So, it’s only fitting to share both sharp insight about the market and focus in on the softer side of life. Our 2024 outlook:

We see the continuation of a tight debt market creating problems for property values; exciting opportunities thanks to cultural shifts in office and retail; plus, long overdue industrial offerings evolving to consider individuals on the warehouse floor along with products on the rack. And, we also see a positive attitude mixed with a healthy dose of reality being a winning combination; It’s important to focus on the long run.

If you like, we’re happy to share more about these expectations and greater insight about other parts of the landscape.  

In the meantime, as you may know, each week during the year we gather for a Tuesday morning “Big Picture Meeting,” during which we present, consider, and discuss the Zeitgeist – i.e., “the spirit of the times.” This practice keeps us culturally “in tune” … and it gives me the opportunity to connect with and learn from our Team Leads about what they’re seeing at home, at work, and in the community.

To conclude each year, we bring all the Zeitgeist thoughts together at our beloved company off-site, Alternate Universe. It’s two days of conversation, contemplation, coffee, and some form of spirited outdoor activity. This year, we covered topics like the impact of strikes in the creative industries, the importance of celebrating others, the shifting of cultural landscapes … and the trials, tribulations, and big wins of the past year.

And during this year’s chats and brainstorms, goals and themes emerged. Perspective was gained. And the result is a list of what we call “Our Navigating Stars,” or the lights that will guide us in 2024. We are happy to share them here so that you might also be inspired …

Having compassion is important, and when followed by rubber-meets-the-road support, it means even more. 

Resourcefulness
This one relies on building and fostering solid relationships, practicing constant curiosity, dedication to creativity, plus acute awareness of the world around us. If we’re resourceful, we’ll accomplish our goals.
